1947 - A French family from the heart of the Alps, Francois SALOMON, his wife Jeanne and their son Georges, set up a work-shop (500 sq. ft.) in the old quarters of Annecy to manufacture saw blades and ski edges.
1952 - Thanks to the automatic machinery invented by Georges, the Salomon Company is able to mass produce ski-edges: nearly 700 km a year! At the same time, the first cable binding system, combining a "Skade" toe release and a "Lift" cable heel is launched.
1962 - Very early exportation becomes a key stategy: contacts are made with winter-sports importers the world over, and Salomon is present at all trade shows, in France and abroad.
1967 - A technical revolution: The Salomon Company designs and markets the first cable-free binding heel units, the "Competition" and "All-Snow", which lays the foundations for the product line which has been constantly perfected until the present day.
1972 - SALOMON becomes world leader in ski bindings. The agents are gradually replaced by subsidiaries, first in Switzerland (1969), then in Germany, Italy, Austria and the U.S.A. (1973).
1979 - The first Salomon boots are marketed in France and a second diversification product, the Cross Country boot-binding system, is developed by the R&D. This revolutionary design is first marketed in France and Sweden in 1980.
1983 - SALOMON enters the unlisted market of the Lyons Stock Exchange and, one year later, is admitted to the official market.
1984 - With the purchase of the American golf club company, TAYLOR MADE, Salomon moves into the new market of golf equipment and diversifies with its first summer sports activity.
1990 - SALOMON stars a new strategic phase with the commercialisation of a monocoque ski with an entirely revolutionary concept.
1991 - The group diversifies with a new summer activity: the hiking boot.
1993 - In order to optimize production costs, SALOMON purchases an Italian subcontractor for manufacturing Alpine boots: SANGIORGIO.
1994 - SALOMON enters the bicycle market with the acquisition of the French company MAVIC, specialized in manufacturing top-of-the-line cycle accessories.
1995 - BONFIRE, the American brand for snowboard apparel, joins the Salomon Group.
1996 - SALOMON reinforces its position as a mountain specialist in the summer and offers a complete range of technical and outdoor hiking shoes.
1997 - SALOMON builds up its winter sports offer by launching a complete range of SNOWBOARD equipment (boards, bindings, boots) and a new activity in the snow: SNOWBLADE. At the same time, SALOMON reinforces its position in summer with a complete range of in-line skates.
September 15, 1997 adidas-Salomon - Salomon joins adidas in order to form the new adidas-Salomon group, European sports leader and number two in the world. (adidas-Salomon article provided by MountainZone.com.)
