adiFIT™
WHAT IS
adiFIT™?
The adiFIT™ sizing system ensures a perfect fit for small feet. A removable inlay sole in each shoe lines up with a child's foot. The variety of sizes printed on the flexible rubber adiFIT™ sizing mat makes it easy to see the child's shoe size at a glance.
THE CONCEPT IS SIMPLE:
A removable insert gets placed against the standing child's foot (it is important that the child has full weight on the insert). If the longest toes are within the shaded area at the end of the insert the shoe fits. If the toes extend over the area, then the next size up needs to be tried. If the toes don't reach the shaded area, the shoe is too big: try the next size down. If the toes aren't in the shaded area, try a new size.
TOO BIG OR TOO SMALL CAN MEAN LONG TERM DAMAGE.
Children's toes have undeveloped nerve endings that don't yet sense pain. This, along with a child's inability to say just how well a shoe fits, makes it crucial to ensure a properly fitted shoe. And at such a young age, children experience tremendous growth; the entire skeletal system is undergoing change, especially when infants begin to assume a more upright position and take their first steps. Therefore it is critical the shoe be neither too big, nor too small. A shoe must provide for the freedom of motion and growth necessary for the foot to mature properly.
Unique to the sports industry is adidas' two child-specific lasts. A single last shape is not enough to properly provide for the changing demands of the child's foot. Besides adiFIT and two last shapes, the functional needs of the shoes are addressed: flexability, collar height, and leather toes are kid-specific features.
